Biography Text: Koji Mizutani, DDS, PhD. is an Associate Professor of Department of General Dentistry, Graduate school of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Medical and Dental University), Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the Dental School, Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) in 2002 and received Ph.D. program parallel to his clinical training in the Department of Periodontology, TMDU in 2002-2006, then became a clinical instructor in TMDU Dental Hospital in 2007. He became a research fellow at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, 2010-2012. After his return to Japan, he became Assistant Professor of Periodontology in TMDU. His research focuses on the association between diabetes, chronic kidney disease and periodontitis. Clinically, the research interests are microsurgery and laser therapy for periodontitis and peri-implantitis. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles on periodontology.
