Dr. Carlos Parra Carrasquer - DDS

Biography Text: Dr. Carlos Parra was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain. He graduated from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) Dental School in 2009. After graduation, he completed a Clinical Residency in Periodontology at UIC (2009-2010) and served as a pre-doctoral clinical instructor there from 2011 to 2012. During this period, he also conducted research on oropharyngeal dysphagia and oral hygiene. Dr. Parra practiced dentistry in Barcelona for three years (2009-2012). In 2012, he moved to the United States to pursue a Certificate in Periodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, completing his studies in 2015. Dr. Parra joined the Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas, as a Clinical Assistant Professor in November 2015. In September 2016, he was recognized at the 102nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) with the Leslie M. Salkin Award for achieving the highest score on the American Board of Periodontology Oral Examination. He has also received the American Academy Foundation Fellowship to the Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) in Health Professions and the Bud & Linda Tarrson Fellowship Award. In September 2021, Dr. Parra was appointed Graduate Program Director of the Department of Periodontology at Texas A&M University. Since 2022, he has served as an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Periodontology. By September 2023, he was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor. Dr. Parra has lectured nationally and internationally on periodontics. His main areas of interest are soft tissue enhancement and dental implants.
