Biography Text: Dr. Gustavo Avila-Ortiz is a board-certified periodontist and an internationally recognized educator and researcher in the fields of periodontics and implant dentistry. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and currently serves as Director of Graduate Periodontics. Dr. Avila-Ortiz has co-authored numerous articles published in peer reviewed journals and several book chapters. He is also the co-author of the book “TISSUES: Critical Issues in Periodontics and Implant-Related Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery”, which has been critically acclaimed within the profession and translated into multiple languages. Dr. Avila-Ortiz has received numerous honors, including the AAP Distinguished Scientist Award. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (IJPRD).
