Biography Text: Dimitris N. Tatakis, DDS, PhD, FICD, is Professor and Director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics and Director for Global Initiatives at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He serves on the Editorial Board of several professional journals, such as the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and as an examiner for the American Board of Periodontology. After completing his dental education in his native Greece, Dr. Tatakis attended the University at Buffalo (New York) and received his Periodontics certificate and his PhD degree. He has authored over 170 peer-reviewed scholarly articles, several book chapters, and co-authored the new 2nd edition of the book “Periodontal Manifestations of Local and Systemic Diseases” (2022). Dr. Tatakis’ research interests include periodontal wound healing and periodontal plastic surgery outcomes. His research has been recognized with the E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery and the R. Earl Robinson Periodontal Regeneration Award. He is the recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology Outstanding Periodontal Educator Award, and he lectures nationally and internationally.
