Pan Pacific Session - Exploring Etiologies and Management of Mandibular Anterior Gingival Recession: Are We Still Missing Something? (Non-CE)

Presenters

Description

Gingival recession, characterized by an apical shift of the gingival margin that leads to root surface exposure, is a prevalent concern in dental practice. Although it can affect any tooth, it is commonly seen in the mandibular anterior region, presenting unique therapeutic challenges. This presentation aims to provide a comprehensive overview of gingival recession affecting mandibular anterior teeth across different age groups. We will discuss etiologies and relevant features that contribute to recession, with particular emphasis on root position. A new classification of root position in relation to the alveolar housing will be proposed. Recently characterized muscular anatomy in this area also raises questions regarding its influence on treatment outcomes. By integrating these factors, we will discuss treatment decision-making regarding the timing and selection of therapeutic interventions to achieve predictable success in restoring the periodontal health of mandibular anterior teeth.
